Dear Cougar Cub Families,

As we head into the final week of April, we are already looking ahead to a strong finish to the school year, and attendance plays a huge role in that success! Each day of learning continues to build on the next, and being present ensures our students stay connected, confident, and ready for all that’s ahead. Our attendance competition between classes is still going strong, and the excitement is growing as classes work toward earning fun rewards. Thank you for helping your child be here, on time, every day!

We are also preparing for a very busy and exciting month of May! From engaging learning experiences to end-of-year celebrations and special events, there is so much for our Cougar Cubs to look forward to. Students won’t want to miss a moment of the fun and meaningful experiences that make this time of year so special.

We appreciate your continued support as we finish April strong and head into a fantastic final month of school. Let’s keep the momentum going and show our Cougar Pride all the way to the last day!

Your Principal,

Ms. Duncan

Important Safety Reminders: Please Read Carefully

Morning Drop Off : As we are preparing our first graders to move on to second grade, we are working to increase their independence and responsibility. We want to encourage students in all grades to open their door, get out of the car on their own, and shut the door behind them. If students are on the driver side, please do not allow them to exit the driver side of the vehicle. Please stay in your vehicle and someone will come help them exit safely.

Safety Concern: For the safety of all students and staff, we ask that you do not let students out of the vehicle until you are pulled up past the grass line. It is very difficult for drivers, especially those in large vehicles, to see students and staff and we have unfortunately had some very close calls.

Afternoon Dismissal :  Car rider dismissal begins at 3:50PM each day and lasts about 15 minutes.  If you arrive after 4:05PM, you will need to park and come inside to pick up your child at the office.  Thank you for your help in keeping our students safe.

P.E. and Playground Shoe Reminder:   In P.E and at recess, students are required to wear proper shoes in order to participate. Athletic or tennis shoes must cover the whole foot, and be secured by laces and/or Velcro. This includes, but is not limited to, running shoes, sports shoes, or Converse.

Footwear such as sandals, flip flops, boots, Crocs, high heels, or backless shoes are not appropriate for school.  Without proper footwear, students may slip, fall, get stepped on, or get wood chip splinters or ant bites on their feet. If students lack appropriate footwear and therefore can not safely participate, they will be unable to join the class activity and will have an alternate activity assigned. This is to ensure that all students are safe and keeping others safe. Thank you for your assistance in helping us ensure student safety.

Attendance Matters!

Students that are at risk of not meeting the 90% attendance law will be invited to instruction recovery time (IRT). IRT will be held before school and on non-instructional Fridays.

  • 90% Law:  The state of Texas requires students to be present 90% of the school year in order to receive credit for their current grade level.

  • Attendance is taken every day at 9:30am.  Your student must be on campus at this time to be counted present for the day.

  • When absent: Only 4 days total per semester can be excused by a PARENT NOTE (parent signed excuse).  For all absences exceeding 4, a doctor’s note or other formal documentation is required.  All excuse notes must be turned in to the Front Office within 3 school days of the student’s absence.

Additional attendance information can be found in our student handbook on the CSISD website.

25-26 Bell Schedule

  • The instructional day begins at 7:50 AM and ends at 3:50 PM. The campus opens at 7:00 AM to begin car rider drop off.

  • Breakfast will be available for students from 7:00AM- 7:50AM.

  • The first instructional bell rings at 7:50 AM

  • Students arriving after this bell are tardy and must be signed in at the office by a parent

  • Students with excessive tardies will be ineligible to participate in campus attendance incentives.
